2007, November 19th
We saw one of the sunniest Septembers in 60 years, according to Météo France. In October, there was a huge rainfall deficit and sunshine was again above average – favourable conditions for full ripening despite a difficult start to the year. The last Cabernet Sauvignon were harvested on October 18 and are superb. Malolactic fermentation is in progress, which will greatly reduce the acidity. We will have to wait until this is finished to be able to form any reliable judgement on the vintage, but we are very optimistic.
The 2006 vintage is being returned to the vats after 12 months in oak. The wood has blended beautifully with the wine, resulting in fine complexity.
The vintages which make the best drinking at the moment are 2000, 2002, and 2003 which is amazingly fruity and concentrated. The fresher 2001 is a delicious accompaniment for meats in a light gravy.
