History and Geology
CHÂTEAU GRIVIÈRE boasts a fascinating terroir of calcareous clay which bore vines as long ago as the 17th century. It has banks of oyster fossils testifying to the presence of a deep sea in ancient times. The subsoil is made up of marl and Saint-Estèphe calcareous clay.
Throughout the years patient work has been carried out to restructure the vineyard and the old vines on this estate continue to form the heart of our blend.

Excellence based on tradition
The vineyard straddles the cities of Prignac and Blaignan, and is planted with 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon vines.
The grapes are vinified in such a way as to preserve the fruity aromas which make CHÂTEAU GRIVIÈRE so appealing. One year of barrel-ageing adds the finishing touch to the structure of the wine. After bottling, the wine is cellared for several years to allow the aromas to integrate.
